Situated in the bustling Thao Dien neighborhood of Ho Chi Minh, this establishment doesn't just serve pastries; it curates an immersive experience by fusing elements from the local French market and Vietnam's rich culinary milieu.
The structure's spatial design is both functional and aesthetic. Spanning three floors, each level holds a unique offering, maintaining a sense of continuity throughout. The Boulangerie & Patisserie on the ground level is a haven for pastry enthusiasts, while the first-floor Bistro & Bar, exuding the ambiance of an intimate hotel lounge, offers a refuge for guests seeking a relaxing space. The top floor, intriguingly dubbed the "labo", carries a purposeful aesthetic that remains integral to Bakes' operations.
Notably, the architects revitalized a pre-existing prefabricated structure by marrying informal materials with cutting-edge design techniques. The stained plywood is arguably the most arresting feature, lending warmth to the interiors and evoking a homey feel, augmented further by extensive wooden finishes. This organic palette perfectly complements the rich, buttery aromas wafting from freshly baked goods.
Externally, the building's facade is understated yet striking. The bright wall, adorned with Bakes' signature colors, effortlessly draws attention, while flags and canopies serve dual functions, enhancing visibility and providing shade.
Upon entering, one is greeted by a long corridor, setting the tone for what's to come. The outdoor balcony garden, with its lush greenery and blooming flowers, is nothing short of a visual treat, positioned perfectly to capture the enchanting sunsets over the neighboring river.
In addition, the careful curation of furniture and greenery doesn't go unnoticed. The lounge chairs, tailored for comfort, and the outdoor furnishings invite guests to linger longer, savoring both their treats and the surroundings.
